  • Chevron down What times are lessons offered and how long are they?
  • Private Lessons can be scheduled any time of the day, but a typical day at Farmdog Surf School has lessons starting at 8 a.m. and running through about 2 p.m. Lessons are about two hours long, including pre-surf warmup and spiel.

  • Chevron down Do I need to be a great swimmer?
  • You must be a competent swimmer with at least intermediate skills and feel comfortable swimming in the ocean in water over your head.

  • Swimwear, a towel, a refreshment, and sunblock.

  • Chevron down What ages are available for lessons?
  • We have given lessons to children as young as 5 and adult children as old as 73. If you are comfortable in the ocean, you can take a lesson at virtually any age as long as your health allows.

  • Chevron down Do I need to bring a surfboard, wetsuit, etc?
  • Farmdog Surf School provides a surfboard, wetsuit, and even sunscreen for every student.

  • Chevron down What happens if the weather is bad?
  • Farmdog Surf School makea every effort to reschedule your lesson during your visit to the Outer Banks. Sometimes, the weather and the ocean just don’t cooperate with surf lessons. We do not risk your (or our) health and lives in unsafe weather or surfing conditions.

  • Yes, there are.
